Cleaning and Cleaning up at Bija

Environmentally Friendly

A clean and beautiful space is an essential component of Bija’s philosophy as we strive to maintain the highest quality environment for all programs. Bija uses only environmentally friendly cleaning products to clean our spaces, toys, and materials. Environmentally friendly products are made from plant-based oils rather than petroleum and contain no artificial fragrances. All cleaning products are safe for children to use, and their participation in the cleaning process is encouraged at all times.

Towels, Gloves, and Tissues

Washable towels and rags are used for the majority of cleaning practices. To clean up vomit or feces, Bija team members wear disposable gloves and use paper towels and/or baby wipes. Gloves are also worn for all diaper changes, food preparation and first aid treatments. Children should be encouraged to wipe their own faces when they have a runny nose and place all used tissues in the garbage bins.

Hand Sanitizer

Hand sanitizer use is discouraged, as it prevents your body from using its natural defenses. If you need to disinfect your hands quickly, please use an available essential oil located in the classrooms and at the front desk. Additionally, wash well with soap and hot water.

Cleanliness Checks

Upon arrival for every Bija shift, team members should be checking the following areas for cleanliness:

–          Bathrooms

–          Kitchenette

–          Surfaces in classrooms such as cabinets and tables

Filling the soap dispensers, stocking towels and toilet paper in the bathrooms and ensuring all other necessary supplies are in place is a part of every work shift.

Before leaving Bija at the end of the day, the same cleanliness protocols are followed as upon opening. All soap dispensers are filled, toilet paper stocked, dirty towels sent to the laundry, surfaces cleaned and cleared of clutter.

Toys, materials and supplies are always put away in their assigned places with the goal of always leaving the space fresh and organized for opening the following day.

Putting Stuff Away

Respect for our space is an element of our philosophy. Please be mindful of cleaning up after yourself throughout your workday. Workspaces, classrooms, and the studio should be clean and organized at all times. Expect the same from the students and clients who share our space.

Studio Cleanliness

While we do have a weekly cleaning crew to deep clean, we ask that you contribute to the general cleanliness of the space while you are there. Vacuuming, wiping down bathrooms, putting laundry in the bins and emptying trash bins are all tasks that each and every staff member at Bija should contribute to while on site.

Dishes

After snack and mealtimes, dishes are washed in our portable dishwasher. In addition to dish detergent, a sanitizing agent must be used. Glasses are placed in the dishwasher face down and after each cleaning cycle, a team member is putting dishes away.

Food + Drink

Bija is a nut free environment. Please be aware and do not bring food with nuts into Bija as many children have severe allergies to nuts. You are welcome to eat/drink while working as long as it does not interfere with your ability to do your job well. Please be mindful that we are promoting healthy living and the food you eat in front of students should be a reflection of Bija values and beliefs. Food can be stored at Bija in our refrigerator during work shifts. Please do not leave food overnight or for prolonged periods of time.
